Bonjour, Que faut-on à propos d'Arionstar ?
Yann (talk) 08:28, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello Basile, today a user has made substantial changes to the header and introduction of the Featured picture candidates page, also changing and abbreviating the instructions in many places. Of course an update of the style seems useful, but IMHO the changes and abbreviations of the instructions are arguable. I have opened a discussion about this. I cannot ping everybody, but I want to invite especially you to check the changes and to participate in the discussion. I would really appreciate your feedback. You know the FPC rules especially well, and even if the user has not changed the ‘hard’ rules, just the ‘soft’ instructions, you may agree that substantial changes to the instructions need to be checked and discussed. Thank you and all the best, – Aristeas (talk) 15:40, 26 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hy Basile,
This is just to congratulate you for your paintings and ambigrams. I particularly enjoyed some of your older paintings, such as "LightS", "Something" and "2099", all of 2007. I'm also a fan of Escher and ambigrams, and recall the old book of Douglas Hofstadter "Godel, Escher, Bach". Regards, Alvesgaspar (talk) 14:07, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot, @Alvesgaspar: for your message! Very appreciated. I'm discovering that we have tastes in common. Nice to hear! Yes, since my childhood, Escher's drawings have interested me, and I started designing ambigrams in 2009. By the years, Douglas Hofstadter has become a friend. He recently published a book called "ABCD", clever title for Ambigrammia Between Creation and Discovery :-) Your participation at FPC is great, because your votes and comments are singular, and less consensual than many others. I wish you a good day! -- Basile Morin (talk) 02:21, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for letting me know about Douglas Hofstadter's last book, which I will of course buy and read! The guy is multifaceted genius, something like a modern version of a Renaissance man. I'm curious about which of your ambigrams are there reproduced... Yes, we share the tastes but not the talent! As a teenager, I was undecided whether I would become an artist or a musician. In the end, the lack of talent decided the issue for me. Take a look at these poor attempts of mine, one of them made when I was twenty years old. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 14:10, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, @Alvesgaspar: Thanks for your message. I'm (quickly) replying from an airport, with 2 children running around:-) Your illustrations look very nice. The JAG ambigram is one of the oldest of the platform. I never paid attention to its creator. Legible solution in my view. These drawings of you are elaborated. Well done. There's only one of my ambigrams in Douglas' book, page 30, but it's still a honor. Because it is a publication mainly dedicated to his own creations, which are as numerous as diverse. Enjoy your (future) reading! -- Basile Morin (talk) 14:02, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
