• Hi Jcpag2012. Look please at my comment there. Why the image needs to have the same resolution as original file? This is a false resolution, it does not correspond to the real detalization. The big image is senselessly stretched, and it does not have more details than the small image. You can take any picture and stretch it 10, 100 or 1000 times, but it would not become better. No new details will appear there. It will become more bulky (=worse), and that's all. And I specially choosed for the diminution the best interpolation algorithm, which reduced the moiré pattern most effectively. Size about several hundred pixels is the most adequate size for this photo. Even with such a small size it looks somewhat blurred.
• What is the sense of turning the north down? Position "north is upward" is definitely the standard one. Any other position will require a special comments for the readers. Stas (talk) 01:29, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Some uses comma, others use brackets, it's all very uneven unfortunately. I thought the format that I chose made most sense, but am open for suggestions how to make it better of course. I requested to rename the false „Seitenansicht“ to „Vorderansicht“ which is not possible because you created a redirection from „Seitenansicht“ to „Vorderansicht“. Wrong renaming

Thank you for making the name more appropriate. I renamed the file bearing in mind Commons:FR#FR1 and an assumption that the uploader wants to adhere to some his proper naming system (remembering that in other cases his requests were correct), but now I see that it was an erroneous request inserted together with the file uploading. Очевидно, на них зображено одне село Новоселівка Миколаївської області. Таких сіл в області декілька і, на жаль, незрозуміло, яке саме з них на цих світлинах. Вітаю, колего! До таких речей я намагаюсь ставитися уважно і, ймовірно, тоді мені здалося, що ідентифікація достатньо надійна — але звідки я це взяв два з половиною роки тому, вже геть не знаю. Якщо ніяких зачіпок не знайдеться, треба буде перенести файл до невизначених. Ну й варто написати завантажувачу — хоч імовірність відповіді й невелика, праці теж небагато. Ви знаєте, я погуглив і, здається, знайшов зачіпочку. Виявилось, в селі є одна незвичайна будівля – Костел cв. Антонія Падуанського. Отут є його якісні зображення. На фотках, що завантажені User:Ириниан, мені здається, ця будівля присутня тут (у правому верхньому куті) і тут (у лівому верхньому куті). Здається, розпізнав. Ці корівники зі ставком звідси: Google, Yandex, вид із півдня. Цей колодязь явно ось тут і знятий із південного заходу. Це (воно ж великим планом) знято звідси, розпізнається і розвалюха праворуч, і автобусна зупинка ліворуч, і якийсь яскравий дах за нею, і костел тоді має бути якраз там, де Ви припустили (на гуглокарті він відмічений як кірха). Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators.

Прежде чем устраивать войну правок, задайтесь вопросом: как убедиться, что во всех этих населённых пунктах нет и не будет ни одной другой церкви Рождества Богородицы. Учитывая, что это одно из самых популярных в стране посвящений церквей. Буду очень признателен, если Вы не будете создавать предпосылки для возвращения хаоса, на разгребание которого я потратил не один месяц, и усложнять проверку категоризации файлов и категорий для тех, кто с этим работает. Вы серьёзно? Вы проработали 892 результата выдачи плюс считаете, что чего нет в Гугле, того нет и в реальности? Гуглежом убедиться в вашем утверждении невозможно. Оно с большой вероятностью верное, но проверить его намного труднее, чем поставить в название уточнение, а убедиться, что оно будет оставаться верным хотя бы в обозримом будущем, невозможно вообще. Можете не сомневаться, что как только в очередном Ракитном появится ещё одна церковь с таким названием, её снимки посыплются в эту же категорию и могут лежать там до второго пришествия. Как и значительная часть снимков церквей с любым названием во всех Ракитных. Половина тех, кто грузит свои снимки на Викисклад, имеет очень смутное представление о том, что они наснимали, и половина тех, кто это категоризует, работает не лучше. Вы хотите убрать уточнение — вам и доказывать однозначность остатка. Смысл вам объяснён: и название «Ракитное», и название «церковь Рождества Богородицы» имеют частоту сильно выше средней. Не ходите, пожалуйста, по кругу. Доказывать несуществование чего-либо ссылками на гугл с 9 страницами результатов смехотворно. Кроме того, речь идёт не только о существовании таких церквей в современности, но и о вероятности их существования в будущем и прошлом. Вред от уточнения незначителен, а вероятность предупреждения ошибок здесь вполне реальна, в отличие от большинства случаев. Так чего ради идти войной на это конкретное уточнение? Є взагалі не фотографії, є знімки руйнувань, зроблені через великий час після руйнування (але розкатегоризовані за датою руйнування, а не зйомки, бо значення має перша, а не друга); є фотографії з неясною датою зйомки (ясно лише, що вона відрізняється від дати публікації). • Добрый вечер! Многие — свободные (это им рекомендовано постановлением Кабмина), но некоторые — нет (например, сайт Минобразования и материалы на сайте президента, выложенные после 4 октября 2022). Надо смотреть конкретный сайт. Sneeuwschaap (talk) 21:54, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

  Тем не менее украинские госсайты близки ли к тому, чтобы принять единую лицензионную политику по примеру Японии (соответствующий шаблон {{GJSTU-2.0}}) или федеральных органов власти США? Правда главный минус многих украинских госсайтов в том, что они поудаляли контент, созданный до февраля 2014 года - на официальных портретах Ющенко и Януковича есть отдельный шаблон о источнике с профессиональными редакционными стандартами, так как они загружены с сайта Запорожской ОГА. В конечном итоге у меня к Вам просьба заняться дополнением списка, так как таких ресурсов десятки, если не сотни.

  На ваш взгляд, лоббировало ли Викимедиа Украина изменение закона о размещении информации органов исполнительной власти, несмотря на отсутствие новости на их официальном сайте? Тем не менее, несмотря на эту победу, им до сих пор не удалось ввести свободу панорамы, как у меня в России 10 лет назад, при этом данные разговоры велись аж с конца 2009 года. Между тем, свобода панорамы в России только на здания и произведения садово-паркового искусства. В Армении и Молдове свобода панорамы как в большинстве стран ЕС, в Грузии готовят поправки.

  Хочу заметить, что в постсоветских странах до сих пор слабо знают о Creative Commons на уровне государственных органов - так например в России с 1 октября 2014 года открытые лицензии закреплены в Гражданском кодексе и значительная часть федеральных и региональных сайтов уже со свободными лицензиями (среди них - сайты {{Kremlin.ru}} и {{Government.ru}}). У меня в планах также обращение к пресс-секретарю белорусского президента Наталье Эйсмонт ввиду непонятного копирайта (внизу написано Материалы Портала могут использоваться в средствах массовой информации, распространяться в сети Интернет без каких-либо ограничений по объему и срокам публикации. Единственным условием является ссылка на первоисточник. Никакого предварительного согласия на использование материалов Портала со стороны пресс-службы Президента Республики Беларусь не требуется.

Лоббировала ли это дело Викимедиа Украина — знаю только то, что в своё время двое коллег по моей просьбе обратились в органы власти и добились размещения свободной лицензии в некоторых важных местах. Да, добиться свободы панорамы, к сожалению, не удалось, хотя в этом направлении Викимедиа Украина работала давно. В позапрошлом году приняли новую редакцию закона об авторском праве, где свободы панорамы опять нет, хотя в некоторых законопроектах она (или что-то подобное) намечалась. Я его собираюсь перенести целиком на Викисклад, где будет реестр уже для всего мира - например, с 2017 года материалы федеральных органов власти Индии также с открытой лицензией. Между тем, лицензия CC BY 4.0 впервые упомянута в редакции от 14 июня 2019 года.

  Вот были ли при Ющенко и Януковиче попытки ввести свободные лицензии на президентском сайте? С 2015 года действует нынешняя версия сайта president.gov.ua, которая имеет белый фон, а спустя некоторое время после инаугурации Зеленского удалены материалы, опубликованные при Порошенко, хотя в 2014-2015 годах президентский сайт имел опубликованные материалы аж с 2005 года.   На ваш взгляд, нужен ли на Мете отдельный раздел по Creative Commons в постсоветских странах? Он будет включать также запросы на переписку с правообладателями, так как здесь правительственный контент не переходит в общественное достояние как созданный на деньги налогоплательщиков. Ещё одна загадка - почему офис Зеленского отказался от свободной лицензии на своём сайте и действительно ли ВМ Украина куда теснее связана с госорганами, чем в России или Армении? Однако как известно же, армянские СМИ проводили акцию Один армянин - одна статья, а офис Викимедиа Армения открывал Серж Саргсян (на эту тему есть фоторепортаж с президентского сайта от июня 2015 года), хотя государство особо не спешит переводить свой контент на открытые лицензии.

  Мне как жителю России выбить разрешения от постсоветских правообладателей на самом деле намного сложнее, учитывая процедуру подачи заявлений в госорганы - мне недавно ответили, что на портале обращения.бел регистрация только с белорусскими сим-картами. Хотя Russavia, проживающий в австралийском Перте (прям на краю света), в 2008 году совершил по-настоящему героический подвиг для русскоязычного викисообщества, получив положительный ответ от пресс-секретаря тогдашнего российского президента Натальи Тимаковой. Он был одним из немногих англоязычных участников, активно развивавшим российскую тематику в Википедии - из его ника происходит то, что он в целом интересовался советской и российской авиацией, позднее также получив разрешение на использование материалов на Викискладе от нескольких фотографов, а также военного фотографа Виталия Кузьмина (до августа 2017 года, нынче http://vitalykuzmin.net с CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Кроме сайта президента, он также получил разрешение на свободное использование материалов нескольких российских посольств, но это скоро станет неактуальным, так как МИД на днях мне прислал письмо по изменению условий использования материалов. • Насчёт отдельного раздела — не возьмусь решать, имею очень мало отношения к Мете, но по крайней мере то, что касается России и Украины, наверно, есть смысл вынести на отдельные страницы, потому что его очень много. Почему на сайте президента Украины запретили коммерческое использование и создание производных работ, неизвестно (по крайней мере мне). Я бы подумал, что всем органам власти ни до каких лицензий нет никакого дела, но пример офиса украинского президента и российского МИДа показывают, что, как ни странно, есть. ВМ Украина вряд ли имеет какую-то особую связь с госорганами, думаю, дело здесь в активной работе некоторых её участников, в частности, коллеги Perohanych. Наверно, он смог бы больше об этом рассказать. Работа Russavia, да, реально титаническая.   Что же касаемо МИД России, то перевод сайта на свободную лицензию лишь вопрос времени (у них неизменная политика в области АП ещё с середины 2000-х годов). Могут поставить в любой момент, либо при запуске новой версии сайта. Тем не менее упразднение ВМ РУ - большой вызов для всего викимедийного сообщества не только в России, но и на постсоветском пространстве, поскольку им сложнее будет координировать действия по работе с правообладателями. Сам я не очень разбираюсь в Армении и Молдавии, но заливаю фото в основном в декоративных целях, а также при первой попавшейся статье без свободной иллюстрации. В основном я заливаю с российских сайтов (в основном с сайтов правительства, президента, палат Федерального собрания и тому подобное, включая региональные - Москва, Татарстан, Тульская область, Краснодарский край и так далее).

Jacobite of Tur Abdin

Leaving you a comment in response to this file rename here [4]. The image was not found in 2025, but was published in a journal article in 1907, which can be found here [5]. On page 386, it makes no mention of "Syriac-Aramean", but just says "Jacobite of Tur Abdin." Figured I would leave this comment on your talk page to discuss the file more and get your thoughts. It was only identified in 2025? You originally uploaded this file only with the JSTOR article [6]. The Sykes was published in 1907, so it was clearly identified at least a century before. Surayeproject3 (talk) 00:50, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

When I say identified I mean commented on, the image taken 1907 by Sykes has since 2025 been used and had its content identified. I do know that it was photographed in 1907, but it does not neglect the fact that in 2025, there were additional comments on it.

@Sneeuwschaap I had originally renamed the image because "Syriac-Aramean" was not present in the original source it came from. Just so you're aware, this is part of a larger conflict that is now a CTOP on English Wikipedia, ACAS, and one which the original uploader was globally blocked for until given another chance to edit cross-wiki [7]. I am simply bringing it up to you as I would ardently like to avoid what could inevitably result in an edit-war, but it's clear that the original published file didn't feature this labeling. en:Terms for Syriac Christians discusses the dispute in more detail, though it appears to have had some recent meatpuppet editing (User:777network, who made this on Commons [8]). @Sneeuwschaap Sorry, I do not want to give you a headache, but I just checked the full journal of the original photographer, Mark Sykes (1907). Please see his journal; he explicitly identifies these Jacobites as "the pure Arameans" (page 554). He further states that Arameans exist from Diyarbakir to Mosul, Midyat (Tur Abdin) is located in between these cities (page 129). [9] Wlaak (talk) 01:43, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

How does this deem if the addition is dubious? Numerous sources, including the article you've linked en:Terms for Syriac Christians mentions that "Jacobites" within "Tur Abdin" often go by "Syriac-Aramean."

You had not only renamed this image, but you renamed nearly all my uploads, in which some now thanks to an Admin has been restored (restored the same term; Syriac-Aramean, it is not dubious).

Multiple of your uploads are from Facebook and X, just like many other uploads to Commons.

And yes, in 2025, the same photograph was identified on Instagram as being Syriac-Aramean, which should not be dubious, per en:Terms for Syriac Christians and many others photographs within this topic.

Multiple of your own uploads seem to add further identification to images, that are not seen anywhere in any source provided, which is very odd, this and this for example. Wlaak (talk) 01:16, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
