Dear Contributor,
A heartfelt thank you for being part of Wiki Loves Folklore 2025! Your incredible contributions have helped document and preserve the world’s rich cultural heritage on Wikimedia Commons.
As a reminder, the contest ends tonight—so if you have any last-minute uploads, now’s the time!
📅 What’s next?
The jury process will begin on 15th April 2025 and is expected to be completed by July 2025.
Please keep an eye on your Wikimedia talk page and ensure your email notifications are enabled so you don’t miss any updates about the results.
📝 We want to hear from you!
Your experience matters to us. We’ll be sending out a feedback form by mid-April to collect your thoughts, suggestions, and any challenges you faced during the contest. Your input will help us make the next edition even better!
Once again, thank you for being a part of this global celebration of folklore and traditions.
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated page should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi Suyash.dwivedi, I've seen that you uploaded these images in 2023 and listed them as your own authorship. However after some research I found this PDF from Local Guides Connect published in 2021, which appears to be the original source. I plan to update the source, attribution, and license accordingly (I still consider these images under the threshold of originality).
Before making those changes, I wanted to check if you made any modifications to the images (and if so, what exactly). This will help me determine whether you should still be credited as the author or if the credit should go solely to the original creator.
I also wanted to gently remind you that uploading images you didn't create and claiming them as your own is against the licensing policy. I'm writting here rather than directly updating the file authorship because I'd like to assume good faith and consider the possibility that you claimed autorship because you did some kind of changes making the files a derivative work in some way. However, if that's case, the original source should still likely be mentioned in the file summary.
Thanks for uploading File:Wiki s Lazy Coders logo small transparent.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).
Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

2023 Picture of the Year: Incense plays an important role in Vietnamese life. It is considered as a sacred bridge to connect the visible life of human beings and the world of heaven, earth, and gods. Photo taken in Quang Phu Cau village, on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam. In this picture, incense sticks are being set out to dry, after being dipped in the incense solution.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

File:Raspberry Pi Official Magazine Issue-157 September, 2025.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Image of magazine with little transformation. Likely a violation of the publishers copyright.
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hello Suyash.dwivedi!,
You are receiving this message as you have previously participated in one of the Wiki Loves X campaigns or are an active Wikimedia Commons contributor.
We’re excited to announce that the Wiki Science Competition 2025 in India is being organized for the very first time at a national level.
This global campaign celebrates science through freely licensed images, videos, and other media on Wikimedia Commons. By participating, you help make science more visible, accessible, and inspiring to people everywhere.
The competition features eight exciting categories:
People in Science
Microscopy
Astronomy
Everyday Science
Scientific Equipment
Chemistry
Physics
Special Category
Campaign Duration:
The competition will run from 1 November to 15 December 2025.
You can upload your images anytime during this period.
Images taken before 1 November 2025 are also eligible, as long as they have never been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons before.
We’re excited to introduce the first-ever dedicated "Mobile Photography" participation option.
Now, you can upload photographs taken with your mobile phone directly through a special upload wizard.
This new option is designed to encourage students and individuals who may not have access to high-end cameras like DSLRs to participate.
Whether your images are captured using a mobile phone or a professional DSLR, all submissions will be judged equally within the relevant category.
This ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to capture and share the wonders of science from their own perspective.
We look forward to your participation and support in making this national campaign a great success. It’s your chance to participate, get recognized, and show how science looks through your lens!. Thank you.
@Suyash.dwivedi Thank you. it is apparently resolved as it seems it just takes some delay to update recent user contributions. However There is another bug in the existing interface... literally anyone in the web is able to generate a certificate in their name by using another contributor's username. This is not a secure method. Regards. RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 10:25, 23 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are correct, the current interface does not yet include user-authentication or validation checks, as the certificate tool is still in its preliminary phase. The public-facing test version was made available only for functional review, and the final secure version will include proper verification to prevent misuse.
I appreciate you reporting this issue. Your feedback will help us tighten the security layer before the tool is fully activated on tentative 25 December.
@Suyash.dwivedi Thank you for appreciation of my contributions. You are invited to visit through my contribution page. I would try to upload some more interesting photos next week once I come back to home PC. RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 23:13, 25 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
"Your certificate is now available! You can download it from the website."
But it doesn't link me to a specific download page. Also I was unable to find any certificate download page elsewhere. Kindly look into the matter. RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 04:33, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello Suyash.dwivedi,
The world’s traditions are disappearing faster than we can document them, but you can help change that.
On behalf of the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team, we are reaching out to invite you to contribute to the 2026 edition of our global campaign.
Share Your Cultural Heritage with the World
Wiki Loves Folklore is an international media contest dedicated to documenting the "intangible" beauty of our cultures. Whether it’s the vibrant colours of a folk festival, the rhythm of a traditional dance, the secrets of a family recipe, or the legends of your hometown, your media helps preserve these legacies for generations to come.
How You Can Contribute
Participating is simple, and every upload contributes to the world's largest free knowledge repository:
Capture: Take photos, record videos, or capture audio of folk activities, music, mythology, or traditional wear.
Upload: Share your files on Wikimedia Commons between 1 February 2026 and 31 March 2026.
Win: Beyond the satisfaction of preservation, there are international prizes for the most impactful contributions.

The green tint is likely caused by reflected light from a green plastic or curtain-like material in the surroundings. The color cast is visible across a broader area, including behind the white shutter cover and in the top-left portion near the subject, which suggests environmental reflection rather than a lens artifact.Thanks- Suyash.dwivedi18:00, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply Support Not really sure this is environmental reflection as you say, but anyway, it's minor, let's promote it --Benjism8918:23, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
I hope you’re well and enjoy your time as a photographer on Wikimedia Commons. In my role of the new chair of the user group, I have a couple of updates to share with you.
After the election, the new board met for the first time on March 21 and immediately got to work. We elected the organization’s officers and decided to move from quarterly to monthly board meetings. We believe meeting more frequently will create more opportunities to serve our members effectively and help move the group forward.
We also successfully applied for a pre-conference at the upcoming Wikimania in Paris (July 21–25). If you’re planning to attend the conference, please consider joining us on July 21th for a day full of conversations about photography and Commons. Please sign up here if you’re interested.
And finally, it’s my pleasure to invite you to our first online meeting, which will take place on May 31. Our member Wojciech, an experienced concert photographer, will give a talk on photographing orchestras during live performances. I’m especially excited that we’ll have the opportunity to meet online again and am very much looking forward to this event.

Hello Suyash.dwivedi,
I want to invite you to participate at our Wikimedia Commons Pre-Conference at the Wikimania in Paris on July 21. If you want to join the pre-conference, please sign up on this page until July 7. Participation at the pre-conference is also possible without a ticket for the Wikimania. If you sign up before the deadline on July 7, you will get free access to the pre-conference day. Unfortunately, online participation will not be possible.
If you have something you want to present or you want to talk about at the pre-conference, please add it here, also until July 7.
There is also a service announcement for all photographers coming to Paris: Unfortunately, France has no freedom of panorama at all. Therefore, Commons does not accept photos of modern buildings, public art or light installations at night. Read more about the problem here.
